Dwayne Johnson is on a hot streak with two hit films under his belt already this year, but now it looks like he could be in Big Trouble. First reported by The Wrap and since confirmed by multiple sources, Dwayne Johnson is currently in negotiations to star in a remake of the 1980’s cult classic, Big Trouble in Little China. The original, released in 1986 and directed by John Carpeter, starred Kurt Russell as a trucker who gets caught up in a centuries-old battle between good and evil in San Francisco’s Chinatown. A blend of action, sorcery and comedy, the film was somewhat of a bomb when released, bringing in only $11 million on a budget of $20 million, but earned cult status thanks to home video and cable. Though the remake is currently in the early stages with no director attached, Thor and X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz have been hired to pen the script with Johnson on board to produce. Though I’m sure many of you out there are probably over Hollywood’s obsession with remakes and reboots, we’re guessing the fact that Dwayne Johnson is attached to remake Big Trouble in Little China has some at least intrigued at the idea. Johnson of course starred earlier this year in Furious 7, which brought in $1 billion at the worldwide box office in record time and his earthquake disaster pic, San Andreas, ruled the box office this past weekend bringing in around $55 million in the US and over $100 million worldwide. No word yet on when we could expect the Big Trouble remake to land in theaters.
