Dwayne Johnson gives an update on next year’s Jumanji reboot and we’ve got the details. The new Jumanji movie may be a “reimagining”, but it looks like it won’t be forgetting about original star Robin Williams. We told you last month that Dwayne Johnson had signed on to star in and produce a new Jumanji movie that is set to arrive in theaters on July 28th, 2017 and today the busy star took to Instagram to update us on the project. In the post, Johnson revealed that the plan is to focus more on the original book by Chris Van Allsburg then the 1995 film saying quote, “I’m feelin’ good and confident stepping into these shoes as a producer as well as actor to bring you something great that you and you entire fam can enjoy.” It sounds like we shouldn’t expect this new film to be a remake or sequel to the original movie, but that doesn’t mean they plan to forget that film either. Johnson went on to say that his love and respect for original Jumanji star, Robin Williams, is boundless and he gave his word to fans that they plan to honor Robin and his character, “Alan Parrish” by immortalizing him in the world of Jumanji in quote, “an earnest and cool way”. Johnson went on to say that he has an idea on what to do that he thinks will make Williams’ family proud. Johnson’s admiration for the actor was highlighted by a story of the first time they met in which Johnson referred to himself as a quote, “star struck bumbling idiot”. Beyond the promise to honor Robin Williams, Johnson went on to say that there will be five main roles as opposed to three that the original film had with casting announcements likely to come this week. While he didn’t give specifics, he did say that they will consist of some of his acting buddies who will be pushing other projects aside in order to join the cast. One potential co-star could be Kevin Hart, who will star alongside Johnson in this summer’s Central Intelligence. Hart was previously rumored to be starring in Jumanji, but was dependent on making his schedule work. Production on Jumanji is expected to begin this summer with Jake Kasdan set to direct.
